Another Year, another mass school shooting
It’s that time of the year again: Time for back pacts, hustling children, and of course,, mass school shootings. We didn’t waste any time this year, for 2 dead children and many more seriously injured, in a shooting at a Catholic school on the 1st day back to class.
Now comes the time for our predictably pathetic American response. Let’s throw our hands up in the air, and say, “How could this happen?” While continuing to be the only nation in the world that allows these tragedies to continue to happen without doing anything about it.
Limiting access to guns and assault weapons is a big part of the equation. Guns offer zero benefit for self defense, (in fact, they vastly increase the odds that your family and children will die a violent death), but I suppose it’s the illusion of safety thats more important to some Americans than actual safety. Better mental health resources and more caring communities would also help, but we’re gooing the wrong direction there too.
At least we can take solace from the fact that this latest shooting could have been so much worse. The shooter was thwarted by a fairly unsophisticated safety measure, a locked door. This forced him to shoot through a window, greatly limiting the body count.
