Wondering how your own child’s video game use stacks up against kids in other families? Here are some facts and statistics on video game use among children and teens:

1. More than 60% of kids say they end up playing video games longer than they intend to. (Griffiths & Hunt, 1995)

2. The average time each American age 13 and older devotes to video games each week rose 60% between 2011 and 2017, to 7.8 hours. (Needleman, 8-31-2018)

3. 75% of teen boys play Fortnite, compared to 47% of teen girls. Boys also log more time on the game, with about 22% of boys playing at least once a day, compared to 9% of girls. (Baig, 2018)

4. 27% of teens admit to playing Fortnite in the classroom.

5. Boys tend to be more prone to addictive behaviors when it comes to videogames. According to a 2017 Pew research center survey, 41 of teen boys admitted to spending too much time playing video games, compared with only 11% of girls. Males also show higher levels of activation in the brain when shown pictures of people playing video games.
