Help Us Help Others:

Something scary happened to Jessica one night.  She went to sleep after her mom and dad tucked her in, just like she always did. But when she woke up in the middle of the night, there was a man in her room!  He looked scary, and said that if she didn’t come with him and do exactly as she was told, he would hurt her.

Scary as it was, Jessica knew that in this situation she needed to resist and make all kinds of noise to wake her mom and dad.  That’s because if he really did mean to hurt her, it’s much easier for him to do so by getting her out of the house. Strangers like this want to take you away before they hurt you.  So she screamed as loud as she could. She banged on the walls and made all kinds of noise.  And it worked!  The stranger got scared and ran off.

But what if it isn’t a stranger?  What if it’s someone you know?  If you’re ever woken up in the middle of the night by someone who wants you to go with them, always say, “Not without waking my mom and dad to check if it’s ok.”  If what they’re doing is right, they won’t try to hide it from your parents.  And if they don’t want you doing this, that’s a sure sign that they’re up to no good.

These things don’t happen very often, so you shouldn’t be scared that it will happen to you.  In fact, it’s so rare that you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than to have someone try and take you at night.  But we want you to know what to do…just in case.  Better safe than sorry!

The end!
