Swimming can be tons of fun. But water can also be dangerous and powerful, and it deserves our respect. Here are a few important water rules you should remember:

1. Never swim alone. Always make sure there is an adult nearby who can swim. There are just too many things that can happen in the water for kids to swim by themselves.

2. The water is not the time or place to take chances.  If an adult is right by your side, it’s okay to be brave and try someting new, but otherwise stay within your comfort zone.

3. It’s fun to show off our swimming skills, but paddling in the water can be exhausting. Remember: it’s not just about how far you can go out, YOU ALSO HAVE TO HAVE ENOUGH ENERGY TO SWIM BACK. If you start to get tired, swim towards the closest shore or platform.

4. Always look before you leap! Before you jump in the water, it’s important to always test the area first to make sure it’s safe. It might be much deeper than you think, and you could drown. Or it might be too shallow, and you could hurt yourself when you hit the bottom.

5. Watch out for other swimmers too! If you are jumping or diving into a pool, always check the area below you to make sure it’s clear of other swimmers before you jump off.

6. Watch your step around the pool. If you slip and hit your head before falling into the water, that would be bad! /this is why life guards are always telling kids not to run around the pool, pluss, skinned knees and stubbed toes aren’t any fun either!

7. Playing in rivers, lakes or oceans is different from playing in pools. Sometimes it can get deep real quick, or water that was calm in one spot can have a strong current just a few feet farther out. So stay within the outlined area and places you know to be safe.

8. Never get in the water if there’s lightning around. Water conducts electricity, which means that if lightening strikes anywhere in the lake or pool, your gonna get zapped too!

Now you know how to keep safe when swimming!

The end!
