EPA Says Human Health No Loger Important
The Environmental Protection Agency was created to protect the public and the environment from polluters. It’s one of the few government organizations that has actually had a positive effect on society. EPA regulations are the reason you can see the city of Los Angelas instead of just a giant brown cloud, and its the reason your kids aren’t ingesting lead everywhere.
This past week, the current administration governing the EPA announced it will no longer factor the ‘dollar value of human lives saved’ and the ‘cost of health care treatments avoided’ within its regulatory decisions. It will, however, continue to factor industry cost estimates for compliance with it’s rules, in other words, the equation governing EPA policy is now one-sided: If a multi-billion dollar company has to spend a a dollar to comply to comply with a regulation, this will be factored into EPA policies to comply with a regulation. But the health of you and your children is now no longer considered at all.
These changes will cater to the rich at the expense of the American public. Chemical exposures typically don’t receive the same type of splashy medical coverage other issues receive, but they can be every bit as devastating to your family, causing health problems, cancer, birth defects, miscarriages, and scores of premature deaths. Unfortunately, it’s a whole lot easier to break regulatory agencies than it is to put them back together again, so the public will likely be paying for this decision for many years to come.
