Help Us Help Others:

How you come to feel about things is guided by what you perceive and believe.  If you believe there’s a monster under your bed waiting for you to go to sleep so it can pounce out and eat your toes because they’re so delightfully delicious, you’re going to be scared.  But if this belief is based on a faulty perception–say, because you saw a strange shape in the shadows and didn’t know what it was, then assumed it had to be a toe-eating monster–your thoughts and emotions are going to be wrong as well.

Our thoughts are only as good as the information guiding them.  Since nobody’s perception is ever 100% complete and accurate, our views about the world can be quite faulty too.  And since everyone has a different perspective, guided by different knowledge, experiences and assumptions, no two people ever see things precisely the same way.
