In Texas, a woman was waiting in the self-checkout line at Walmart. A woman waiting next to her happened to take notice of how “cute” her child was, and apparently decided she’d like to add this tyke to her shopping cart. So she reportedly offered the mother $250,000 to buy her child. When that was rebuffed, she doubled her offer to $500,000. That’s when the shaken mother grabbed her kid and fled.

Usually these situations are jests or jokes taken too literally, like when a teen posted her “adorable” niece up for sale on Facebook. But police apparently took this episode seriously enough to arrest 49-year-old Rebecca Taylor, so perhaps there’s something to it. Then again, this is Texas we’re talking about, so who knows.

Given that most people consider their children priceless, many readers would no doubt have reacted just as this woman did — with horror and disgust. But let’s be honest…some of you are secretly thinking, I’d have sold mine for half that. Except you’re mostly joking. Mostly.
