Gather the kids together in your group area and have them sit on the floor. Space the kids far enough apart that there’s plenty of room to walk between them. Get a CD to play (preferably ocean sounds or something to do with water) and tell the kids to close their eyes and imagine that they are swimming.
As they do so, pick up or pull one child quietly from the group and have them hide in another part of the class – perhaps by laying them down behind a book shelf. Then come back, stop the music, and say, “While you were swimming, one of your classmates drowned. Open your eyes and try to figure out who it is that’s missing.” Once they realize who is missing, have them search for her around the classroom. Once they find her, have them shout, “Teacher, teacher, I think so and so needs help!” Rush in for pretend first aid and then go back and play another round.
